From time to time, we all feel a little run down. Our stresses and strains might be linked to pressure at work, problems in our personal lives, or just too many rainy days. But whatever the cause, I have the solution: a trip to Zenergy Health and Beauty Clinic, Fade Street, Dublin.
Zenergy, situated in central Dublin, is a health and beauty sanctuary I visit regularly. However stressed out I may seem upon entry, I always leave feeling amazing!
As well as various beauty and health treatments, Zenergy offers a range of massages, from its invigorating Indian Head Massage to its Aromatherapy Massage.
Here are a handful of my favourite treatments and some of the health benefits associated with indulging in them:
1. Swedish massage
Zenergy’s Swedish massage is the quintessential massage experience. (Swedish massage is sometimes called “the classic massage treatment”.) Massaging techniques are informed by Western concepts of anatomy and physiology as opposed to energy flow, and Zenergy’s expert masseuses use a range of hands-on practices, such as gliding, kneading, stroking and cross-fibre friction to ease tension and promote relaxation.
Swedish massage is designed to improve your circulation and soothe your muscles. In fact, Swedish massage has been shown to oxygenate the blood, decrease the levels of toxins present in your muscles and improve your flexibility.
A study published in The New York Times actually found that volunteers who received a Swedish massage for 45 minutes each day produced lower levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and experienced a tangible immune system boost. So, if you’re new to massages, why not try a Swedish massage toady?
2. Aromatherapy massage
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing therapy, which soothes mind, body and spirit. Based on the ancient science of using plants to energise, relax and heal, aromatherapy massage treatments have been shown to enhance mood, improve lymphatic circulation, encourage restful sleep when using the back support pillow, and balance hormone production.
Essential oils (highly concentrated plant oils) are used, and can be tailored to your requirements and preferences. For example, while lavender oil leads to restful nights, lemon oil uplifts, and peppermint oil acts as a mental stimulant.
3. Thai massage
Thai massage is typically more vigorous than Western massage. A Thai massage therapist is likely to use his or her hands, legs, feet and knees in order to move your body into a variety of stretches and yoga-like poses.
Thai massage seeks to aid your whole body via a range of trigger point treatments and neuro-muscular therapies. Energetic and physical, this type of massage therapy is thought to be over 2,000 years old, and can help detoxify and tone your body.
4. Holistic massage
Essentially, “holistic” means “whole”; holistic therapies seek to rebalance your entire body, identifying the various causes of your symptoms rather than merely treating them as they arise.
Zenergy’s holistic massage is informed by the Swedish system, so your massage therapist will apply different amounts of pressure to your muscles with his or her hands.
Holistic massages are ideal if you’d like to improve the quality of your sleep, boost your emotions, and reduce stress levels.
